The method Pilates, or simply Pilates, is a system of physical training and mental creation from the beginning of the 20th century by Joseph Hubertus Pilates, who based his knowledge on distinct specialties such as gymnastics, traumatology and yoga, uniting dynamism and muscular strength with mental control, respiration/breathing and relaxation.
In the beginning it was named Contrology, (for his own Pilates?), which emphasizes the use of the mind in order to control the body, but searches for the balance and unity between both. The method focuses on the development of internal muscles in order to maintain body’s balance and give stability and firmness to the spine,this is why it is used in rehabilitation therapy. Pilates is practiced around the world and gains popularity.
