Lectures and workshops

Illustrated Lecture Take a closer look at flamenco.
This illustrated lecture explores some palos of flamenco.  While explaining the theoretical part of flamenco the speaker will point out interesting aspects of the ‘palos’ followed by a personal demonstration.
The demonstration will be performed live by the bailaora-speaker (Lucía Guarnido), a guitarist, and a singer.
This small recital of dance, song and guitar (buleria, tangos, soleá, seguiriya, alegrias, farruca and guajira) will provide the audience with a better understanding of the different palos in flamenco, their richness and complexities.

Flamenco Workshop In this workshop the students will be offered a theoretical and practical program to better learn about flamenco. We will show not only those aspects of flamenco available through books or website but we will also provide the student with a much closer experience while encouraging them to participate as much as possible.

In the theoretical program we will study the origins of flamenco and its evolution up to present day flamenco. We will learn about the great figures that this magnificent Andalusian art has given us and the different palos and styles of flamenco.
In the practical program we learn the different types of “compas” and a number of basic movements of flamenco.
The main objective of this workshop is to bring the students closer to flamenco.  With respect and  an understanding that this special art form is not only profound and serious, but also quite rigorous.

The program is broken down in the following way:
• 25% theoretical
• 25% audiovisual samples
• 50% practical
The workshop was developed with beginners in mind, but is easily modified (especially the practical part) in order to adapt to the level of the participants.
The duration of the workshop is eight hours.  4 classes-2 hours each. With the ability to extend or reduce the time according to the needs of the students.

This workshop was given at the international Menéndez y Pelayo University for foreign students, with great success and acceptance. Also at the University of Granada and in the school of contemporary dance Isabella Duncan in Athens.
